AEROTHERMAL ENERGY: How to reduce noise and vibrations in both indoor and outdoor units.
A case study using SENOR dampers.
Brief Introduction:
Aerothermal technology has emerged as one of the most efficient and sustainable solutions for residential temperature control. However, if not properly managed, the noise produced by the outdoor unit can become a serious concern. In this article, we explore a real case study of a customer who, by mounting SENOR’s TBMF damper range, effectively soundproofed their aerothermal system.
Identifying the Issue
A customer from Guadalajara (Castilla-La Mancha, Spain) installed a Vaillant aroTHERM VWL 155/2 A aerothermal unit (230V, refrigerant R290) to regulate their home’s temperature. Although the system functioned as expected, the noise and vibrations became particularly disruptive at night, disturbing the room directly beneath the outdoor unit.
“During the night, the noise and vibrations would wake us up, especially on colder days when the system required higher power,” the customer reported.
Inadequate Silentblocks: The Importance of Selecting the Right Damper
Initially, the system was mounted on a standard silentblock system, but this failed to resolve the issue.
“The silentblock system it was installed on did not effectively dampen the vibrations,” the customer explained.
This case underscores the fact that not all dampers are effective in soundproofing from aerothermal units. It is crucial to use specialised models that efficiently absorb dynamic vibrations and prevent their transmission to the building’s structure.
The Solution: Bespoke Technical Project and TBMF Dampers
To address the issue, SENOR’s Technical Department devised a customised project, recommending:
- SE-TBMF-45V dampers for the fan area (40% of the total weight).
- SE-TBMF-75A dampers for the compressor area (60% of the total weight).
In addition, the customer received:
- A TBMF installation manual, providing detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to correctly mount the dampers.
- An interactive Shapr3D link, enabling the customer to visualise the unit and dampers in 360º: [View 3D model here].
Customer Testimonial
We asked the customer to share their experience before and after the installation:
- What kind of noise did the outdoor unit produce?
“Vibration and noise, with varying levels of intensity.” - When was the noise most disruptive?
“At night, when the house was quiet.” - How would you describe the change in your quality of life after the installation?
“It has been crucial in enabling us to rest and sleep. It was a new home, and we couldn’t sleep well at night.” - What additional improvements have you noticed?
“The unit is no longer rigid; it moves slightly due to the dampers, and the noise has completely disappeared.” - Would you recommend this solution?
“I would recommend it to anyone looking to reduce the disturbances caused by vibrations.”
Results: A Quieter and More Peaceful Home
The results were immediate. The vibrations and noise were completely eliminated
“The unit is no longer rigid; it moves slightly due to the dampers, and the noise has gone.”
Aside from improving sleep quality, the customer emphasised that the installation of the dampers was essential in safeguarding the unit’s connections and pipes, preventing any potential damage.
Comprehensive Solutions for Aerothermal Systems: Outdoor and Indoor Units
At SENOR, we offer acoustic solutions for both outdoor and indoor aerothermal units, catering to both floor-mounted and wall-mounted equipment. This ensures a secure installation free from vibrations, improving the efficiency and acoustic comfort of the entire system.
If you’re unsure about the best solution for your installation, our Technical Department is ready to assist you!
Comparison: Before and After Installation
Before: Unsuitable Initial Mounts
The customer initially installed their aerothermal unit using a standard silentblock support system. However, this system failed to effectively absorb the vibrations, leading to noise and discomfort within their home.
The following images illustrate the original installation:
- Overview of the unit, mounted on the initial dampers
- Close-up of the initial assembly – Side view
- Detail of the original mounting system

After: Switching to the SENOR TBMF Damper Range
To resolve the issue, the customer installed SENOR TBMF mounts, specially designed to dampen dynamic vibrations and prevent them from transmitting onto the building’s structure. As a result, the noise was completely eliminated, and the outdoor unit was fully stabilised.
The following pictures showcase the fruitful outcome:
- Overall view of the outdoor unit mounted on TBMF dampers
- Close-up of the TBMF damper – Side View
- Bottom view of the TBMF dampers
- Detail of the rear connections with the dampers installed

- Full view of the unit with all TBMF dampers in place

📌 Clarification: The customer is in the process of installing a final shim beneath the dampers to properly level the unit, as the rooftop floor is slightly sloped.
Conclusion: Technical Solutions That Improve Quality of Life
This real-life case illustrates how a small adjustment can have a substantial impact. The TBMF dampers not only dampen vibrations and soundproof but also extend the operational lifespan of HVAC equipment by safeguarding its more delicate components.
