Our speciality is acoustic dampers, acoustic bands and anti-vibration systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, we are well aware that the performance of any acoustic building system depends on many factors, and one of them &#8211; often overlooked &#8211; is the quality of the absorbing material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many of our customers &#8211; whether they are installers, distributors or technicians &#8211; <strong>often ask us what type of absorbent material they should place inside their ceilings, wall linings, partitions or floors to complete the acoustic solution<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is why we wanted to prepare this small guide, with a technical and constructive approach, to help make better decisions based on objective criteria and real experience on site.<br>We hope it will serve as useful guidance for those seeking to improve the acoustic comfort of spaces with effective, coherent and well-thought-out solutions from the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong>\ud83c\udfaf 1. <strong>Acoustic absorption coefficient<\/strong> (\u03b1)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This measures the material&#8217;s ability to absorb sound,<\/strong> on a scale from 0 (zero) to 1 (maximum).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\ud83d\udccc <strong>\ud83d\udccc<strong>Recommended range<\/strong><\/strong>: \u03b1 \u2265 0,70 (in thicknesses of 40 to 50 mm)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2b50 <strong><strong>Optimal value<\/strong><\/strong>: \u03b1 \u2265 0,90<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a material offers these values with a thickness of only 4 or 5 cm, it is a very efficient product. Remember that not all materials that \u2018look\u2019 acoustic are actually acoustic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong>\ud83d\udca8 2. <strong>Air flow resistance<\/strong> (AFr10)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This value is <strong>key and often overlooked.<\/strong> It indicates how much resistance the material offers to the passage of air (and therefore to the passage of sound). If the air passes through too quickly, no energy is dissipated. If it fails to penetrate, sound is reflected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\ud83d\udccc \ud83d\udccc <strong>Recommended range:<\/strong> between 5 and 15 kPa\u00b7s\/m\u00b2<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2b50 <strong><strong>Optimal value<\/strong><\/strong>: 10 kPa\u00b7s\/m\u00b2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An absorber with AFr10 within this range allows sound to penetrate, dissipate within the material and not bounce back. If this value does not appear in the data sheet, <strong>be cautious<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong>\u2696\ufe0f 3. <strong>Density of the material<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is one of the most misunderstood facts. Many people think that the denser the better&#8230; and this is true. If it is too compact, it starts to behave like a barrier. So if a material is too light, it doesn&#8217;t absorb well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\ud83d\udccc <strong><strong>Recommended density<\/strong><\/strong>: 30 kg\/m\u00b3<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\ud83d\udd0e <strong><strong>Acceptable range<\/strong><\/strong>: entre 30 y 70 kg\/m\u00b3<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u26a0\ufe0f Avoid materials below 20 kg\/m\u00b3 or above 80-90 kg\/m\u00b3<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A density of 30 kg\/m\u00b3 provides the perfect balance between lightness, porosity and acoustic efficiency, especially in plasterboard systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong>\ud83d\udd25 4. <strong>Reaction to fire<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This point is not in dispute. In ceilings, wall linings, partitions or floors in houses, hotels, offices or public buildings, the material must comply with the requirements of the CTE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\ud83d\udccc <strong><strong>Minimum requirement<\/strong><\/strong>: Euroclase A2-s1,d0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2b50 <strong><strong>Optimum value<\/strong><\/strong>: A1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A good absorber must be <strong>non-combustible,<\/strong> not generate smoke or flaming droplets in case of fire. And it must be clearly certified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong>\ud83c\udf21\ufe0f 5. <strong>Thermal conductivity<\/strong> (\u03bb)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is becoming increasingly common to combine acoustic and thermal insulation in the same solution. It is therefore of interest that the absorber has a good thermal resistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\ud83d\udccc <strong><strong>Recommended range<\/strong><\/strong>: \u03bb \u2264 0,035 W\/m\u00b7K<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2b50 <strong><strong>Optimal value<\/strong><\/strong>: \u03bb = 0,032 W\/m\u00b7K<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This improves indoor thermal comfort, reduces energy loss and optimises building systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-image uagb-block-363d23a6 wp-block-uagb-image--layout-default wp-block-uagb-image--effect-static wp-block-uagb-image--align-none\"><figure class=\"wp-block-uagb-image__figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/senor.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/elegir-un-buen-material-aislante-acustico-SENOR-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"uag-image-89089\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" title=\"elegir un buen material aislante ac\u00fastico-SENOR (3)\" loading=\"lazy\" role=\"img\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong>\ud83d\udca1 <strong>Extra tip: want to improve even more<\/strong>?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the system allows it (due to space or design), <strong>an excellent way to improve both acoustic and thermal insulation is to place a double layer of absorbent material: for example, two layers of 50 mm mineral wool<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This solution not only improves absorption over <strong>a wider range of frequencies<\/strong>, but also reinforces the thermal resistance of the whole, providing much more effective overall comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Provided that the thickness allows it, installing double absorbent material is a simple, economical and very effective decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And something even more important:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>It is absolutely esential to use the absorbent material at all times<\/strong>, even in solutions that are not specifically designed as acoustic systems.<br>Whether it is a false ceiling, a technical partition wall or an air gap, <strong>the absorbent material makes the difference between a functional system and an ineffective system.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong>\u26a0\ufe0f <strong>Watch out for \u201ctrendy\u201d materials<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In recent years, products such as certain <strong>polyurethane agglomerated foams<\/strong> have gained popularity due to their professional image, ease of installation and powerful marketing campaigns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, many of these materials have <strong>excessive densities<\/strong> or <strong>inadequate airflow resistances<\/strong>, compromising their performance as real absorbers.<br>And while they may be useful in certain contexts, <strong>there are much more balanced and effective options<\/strong> for ceilings, wall linings, partitions and floors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As always, it&#8217;s not about looks, it&#8217;s about proven technical data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong>\ud83d\udcb0 <strong>Quality-price ratio: rigour without obsession<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is not always necessary to use the most advanced or the most expensive equipment. What is important is <strong>that it fulfils the essential technical criteria<\/strong>, is well documented and has a balanced performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u2714 Be rigorous, but not obsessive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u2714 There is no need to strive for perfection.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u274c Avoid products without technical data sheets or with \u2018magical\u2019 properties.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A well-designed system does not need extreme products, but components that are compatible with each other and well executed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:18px\"><strong>\u26d4 <strong>The absorber does NOT eliminate vibrations<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This point is fundamental and should be remembered:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong>The absorbing material does not decouple or dampen.
